The Kennedy Center is looking to revamp family-friendly programming, including providing more faith-based content that has often been left behind from the Center’s agenda.
To begin a new focus, the Kennedy Center will host a free family screening of the new Angel Studios animated film, The King of Kings, which travels through Jesus’ life from the perspective of a boy who has discovered the film’s transformational powers.
The “King of Kings” screening, which will be held on Sunday, June 1, also shows a move to more offerings Pro-Christian content At the Kennedy Center.
According to the Center, the only modern production of recent times considered “Christian” was the 2022 show of “Jesus Christ Superstar,” an early 1970s musical, considered by some critics, at least initially by Pastor Billy Graham. It’s making sacrifices.

“When I saw the King of Kings ad campaign, I knew right away that I needed to come to the Kennedy Center,” said Ambassador Richard Grenell, president of the Kennedy Center. “And by chance, I was asked to join the panel with the CEO of Angel Studios, so I cornered him, which is family-friendly programming that I’ll do more in the future.”
A special screening of “The King of Kings” marks the center’s first Jesus-centric show since “Jesus Christ Superstar,” the Kennedy Center shows. “The King of Kings has become the most successful faith-based animated film in history,” said David Fisher, head of Angel Studios’ Acquisition & Business Affairs. “But the biggest achievement lies in the mind that it moved. And screening at the Kennedy Center is a symbol of how far the truth and light can travel.”
