In a sit-in interview with Diane Sawyer On “Good Morning America” The 52-year-old “Grey’s Anatomy” alumnus opened up about navigating his disastrous ALS diagnosis and heartbreaking effects, including losing his limbs.
“I started experiencing some weaknesses in my right hand, but at the time I wasn’t thinking anything about it. Maybe I was texting too many times and my hands were tired,” he told Sawyer. “A few weeks later I realized it had gotten a bit worse. I went and saw the hand expert who sent me to another hand expert. I went and saw the neurologist, who sent me to another neurologist and said, ‘This is beyond my wage grades.’ ”

Dane admitted that he would “never forget” the moment he was diagnosed.
“I will never forget these three letters, [ALS]. It’s the second time I’ve woken up,” he said. “That’s not a dream,” he said.

The actor, who shares his two daughters, Billy, 15, and 13-year-old Georgia, 13, with his wife Rebecca Gayhart, said he began to notice more of the effects of his illness during a boat trip with his daughter a few months ago.
After jumping into the water, Dane – a former competitive swimmer – quickly realized that he could not swim.
“[Georgia] It pulled me back into the boat,” Dane said. Dane immediately recalled having shed tears on the boat.

Dane also told Sawyer that he was “angry” about the diagnosis, saying, “I’m angry because my dad took me when I was younger.
Dane announced her ALS diagnosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, in April.
“I’ve been diagnosed with ALS. I’m grateful that my beloved family is by my side as I navigate this next chapter,” the 52-year-old “Euphoria” actor said. people.
“I’m lucky enough to be able to continue working and look forward to returning to set “Euphoria” next week. During this time, my family and I will give you privacy. ”

“I don’t think this is the end of my story,” he told Sawyer. “In my mind, I don’t feel this is the end of me. I’m fighting as much as I can. There are many things I can’t control.”
