Los Angeles criminal defense attorney Dan Rubin Diddy’s strategy was to “accept lower state crimes to avoid federal prisons.”
“This is wise because Didi may admit that something illegal has happened, but it’s not as bad as what federal prosecutors say, so it goes without saying that the federal government has no ability to punish him at all and sentences him to a higher prison sentence,” Rubin said.

“The domestic violence accusations here are not federal crimes as they have nothing to do with the destruction of federal law and do not affect the interests of the federal government.
“So, if Diddy is convicted of a future domestic violence charge (or accusation), federal courts won’t be able to do anything about it.”

Authorities claim Diddy runs criminal companies through his businesses, including Bad Boy Entertainment, Combs Enterprises and Combs Global. According to prosecutors, he used “firearms, threats of violence, forced, verbal, emotional, physical and sexual abuse” to satisfy his sexual desires.

“Essentially, the defense would say Didi lacks the necessary intent to commit the violence that is being charged with mental state or his commitment,” Chorobak added. “Another way this defense can be used is that it could be a way to undermine the credibility of witnesses who testify whether Didi himself is not the sole perpetrator of violence and has succeeded in claiming that he is part of a violent situation or is responding to it rather than simply acting violently.
“That type of defense can make it difficult to prove your intentions, and because it makes it much more difficult for a prosecutor to prove his case if a witness who loses credibility with a ju apprentice is considered to be the same part of being involved in a violent situation.
