Richards, 54, admitted that she may have “protected” her children too much from the reality of what her father was experiencing while growing up.

The former couple tied the knot in 2002 and got married just under three years ago in March 2005 when Richards became pregnant with their second daughter, Laura. They welcomed their eldest son Sami a year ago.
“If I was performing at school and he was supposed to show up, I got a call saying, ‘Something happened on the side, hospital, anything happened.’ I’m not going to tell the truth to my kids,” she said on the “Brother’s Joy with Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson” podcast. “I told them I lied to them, and I said, ‘Dad had to do the job.’ ”

Richards said, “Where I like, I can’t say it,” adds, “I can’t say it.” So I lied, and I coated it with sugar and I protected him. ”
The “Dennis Richards and Her Wild Things” star recalled one holiday when Sheen, 59, called from prison to pray for Merry Christmas. The “Two and a half men” actor was arrested on Christmas Day 2009 after allegedly attacking and threatening him for killing his then-wife. Brook Mueller.

“He was arrested at Christmas and he called the girl out of prison saying, ‘Merry Christmas’,” Richards said. “And they were busy playing with the toys. They say, ‘Speak to Dad later.’ I’m going, “I think Dad will be a little busy later.”
Richards protected the young girl from the truth of the situation.
“I didn’t say, ‘Your dad just says ‘Merry Christmas’ because f—- G’s got arrested and he’s in jail,” she said.
For Richards, protecting her child has always been a major focus.

“Dop Dead Gorgeous” actress Her goal was to preserve her relationship with the daughter and the scene, not to interfere with her own feelings about the situation.
“There was a time when I didn’t know if he was going to live or not, and I didn’t want the girls to know their dad. [from] What they read is, “I wanted it to be their experience and their relationship. Also, I didn’t want to put my feelings on them, because that’s not fair to them.”

Despite the challenging times, Richards still insists on uniting the family, and will not get in her way to include the scene.
“I told Charlie too, “I don’t care if you’re mad at me or not. Let’s have dinner with the girls. “Because they are our daughters. They don’t deserve to divide their family. Now do you know that your other ex-wife and your children mean? Let’s keep that in harmony as much as possible. So even now, I’m still trying to do it.”

Sheen was famous for being named as a client of Hollywood Madame Heidi Fleece in 1995. In December 1996, Sheen was charged with assaulting a girlfriend at her Southern California home. He later refused to admit the contest and was placed on two years of probation.
Two years later, his father, Martin Sheen, turned him into authorities to violate his parole after being hospitalized for an overdose of cocaine.
Richards shared daughters Sami (20) and 19-year-old Laura with Sheen, recruiting her youngest daughter, Eloise (13) in 2011.
