Dakota Johnson It reminded me of how her father, Don Johnson, cut off her financially after she didn’t attend college.
While interviewed by her “materialist” co-star Pedro Pascal Elle UK, The 35-year-old actress revealed that she only applied to one university, Juilliard School, but she was rejected by the prestigious conservatory.
Johnson chose not to apply to another university, and initially failed to support herself with acting gigs that she could land at the time.
“I wasn’t in and my dad cut me off because he didn’t go to college,” Johnson told Pascal. “So I started auditioning. I think I was 19 when I did the ‘social network’. After that, it’s a small job or something. ”

“For years, it was difficult to make money,” she admitted. “There have been times when I went to the market and I had no money in my bank account or I couldn’t pay rent, and I have to ask my parents for help.

Don, 75, shares Johnson with his ex-wife, Melanie Griffith, 67. Don and Griffith first got married in 1976, but divorced six months later. “Miami Vice” star And the “Working Girl” actress tied the knot again in 1989, and welcomed Dakota that year, but split again in 1996.

Johnson told Pascal that she had no typical school experience as she spent most of her childhood traveling with Don and Griffiths while filming her acting project.
“I traveled with my parents and my tutor until I was 10,” she said. “I went to a lot of different schools and for my mother and Antonio we lived in Spain for a while. [Banderas] He was married. At one point, I went to All Girls Catholic Boarding School. It was an interesting experience. ”

She went on to say she returned to Los Angeles and attended private New Road School for the past three years of her high school. However, the “Madame Webb” actress admitted that she was not the best student.

“I’ve never learned time management and never did my homework, so I wasn’t good at basic school stuff,” Johnson said. “I enjoyed English. I was good at Spanish, I wasn’t math. I did visual arts. And at some point they had a pseudo theatre program I was involved in.
Johnson played a minor role in Aaron Sorkin’s 2010 biographical drama, The Social Network. actress She starred as Anastasia Steele in 2015 in “50 Shades of Gray,” and broke through her career when she recreated her role in two sequels in the film.

“When Dakota graduated from high school, we have rules for our families,” he continued. “The rule is that if you don’t go to college and get a job, you’re separated from your family’s salary.
“After graduating from high school, I went to Dakota and said, ‘Would you like to visit some colleges?” And she said, “I’m not going to college.” I said, “Oh, that’s funny. She said, “I don’t worry about it.”
“Three months later, she has that part on the ‘social network’ and hasn’t looked back,” he added.
