US Senator Michael BennettD-Colo. announced the governor’s bid on Friday, jumping into the 2026 race and becoming the second Democrat to take over the term-restricted Governor Jared Police.
Phil Weiser, ColoradoThe Democratic Attorney General has already announced his bid. Weiser emerged as a well-known opposition to the Trump administration, and along with other state attorney generals filed a lawsuit over a series of policies and executive orders.
“We’ve made a real progress together from expanding the child tax credit to securing $700 million for Colorado’s infrastructure,” Bennett said on X.

Bennett has been in the Senate for over 16 years.
The lawmaker won re-election in 2022, so if he was elected Governorhe would have vacated his Senate seat before his current six-year term ended.

Bennett previously mounted the presidential bid in 2019, but dropped out in 2020.
