“George was a doting family man, a beloved friend, and all those lucky enough to know him. He will be missed forever. The family has requested privacy during this time,” the statement said.
All 275 episodes of my beloved NBC sitcom, “Cheers” Went starred as Norm Peterson. Throughout the show’s course, Went has won six consecutive Emmy nominations for his role.
After “Cheers” went off-air in 1993, the actor pivoted on his own show, “The George Wendt Show.”
Went also appeared on the big screen in films such as “Alice in Wonderland,” “Little Rascals,” “Santa Buddy,” and “Airplane II: The Sequel.”
