Fognini never passed the third round at Wimbledon, but after beating Alcaraz in the second set, he was looking for one of the decisive fifths, after defeating him 6-2 in the fourth.
However, much of Alkaraz’s struggle was self-harm. He had nine double faults and 62 forced errors compared to a 52 victory shot. He also faced a breakpoint of 21. This is something that no one will enter the first day on Monday.
Alcaraz found him screaming something in the coach’s box during the game. Social media translated his words in Spanish as Fognini believed he had more tennis left.
