In its latest report, the UK’s National Statistics Office estimated that 10.8 million overseas visits to the UK between April 1st and June 30th, 2024.

Not only has tourism increased, but the discoveries of increasingly valuable British treasures have also been reported.

The report includes A 12% increase in treasure is discovered 2024.
“Treasure” refers to objects of “exceptional historical, archaeological, or cultural significance” that were at least 200 years ago.

The report states that “1,363 discoveries were reported to the coroner in 2024, with a 144 increase reported. [over] 2023. ”
He also said, “500 studies have concluded their findings. Of these, 98% (491) return the treasure conclusions, an increase in the percentage of which is 2% points higher than 2023.”

The number of discoveries has steadily increased between 1997 and 2017, but a downward trend occurred between 2018 and 2020.

“As numbers have risen again since 2021, metal detection activity has skyrocketed during and after the symbiotic pandemic,” the report said.
“In 2024, the number of discoveries increased to 1,363 from 1,219 in 2023 to 1,363 (up 12%). The number of conclusions from the treasure survey increased by 10% (from 454 in 2023 to 500 in 2024).”

So where were most of the treasures?
The discoveries of more than 40 treasures were discovered in Devon and Dorset, two southwest counties of two southwest counties known for their seaside resorts.

Norfolk and Suffolk also reported more than 40 discoveries of tourists visiting eastern England.
Yorkshire Inn Northern England They also reported some of the most discoveries, along with the Shropshire countryside, adjacent to Wales.
The report states that the number of treasures “varies very much across the country, but is likely due to geographical and historical differences.”
Yorkshire, north of England, also reported some of the most discovered.
“In 2024, no treasures were reported to 24 coroners, but Norfolk found the most treasures in 132,” the study states.
But for those looking to visit the UK right away, it may cost you: the government has implemented tourism-related fees over the past year.
