The so-called dream home for literature enthusiasts has appeared in the market in Columbus, Ohio. 7,000 hardback books Dramatic floor-to-ceiling shelves – and it’s listed for $1.6 million.
According to news agency SWNS, the house was custom designed to evoke the atmosphere of a historic German village cottage.
The building is aged externally with materials that reflect early 20th century construction, but is a modern dual-unit property with high-end features and is built to serve as a short-term luxury rental.

The 4,536 square feet of residence has two living units with a total of eight bedrooms and six bathrooms, providing ample accommodation to sleep as many as 24 guests.
The property was reportedly imagined as an immersive design experience, with all the details envisioning that fused “vintage characters with modern convenience,” SWNS said.

To make his vision come true, developer Guy Marshall began collecting books for the project.
In the end he accumulated about 7,000 hardcover volumes, which he acquired for 10 cents each, SWNS reported.

SWNS said rental forecasts from short-term stay experts estimate that households could generate around $273,000 in total annual income.
Marshall said that every element of the design was intentionally chosen.

This includes exteriors made from dyed concrete blocks and finished similar to aged masonry.
“The single layer thick walls reflecting the walls of buildings built in the early 1900s highlight the intention to guide the aesthetics and durability of historic craftsmanship, from antique lighting fixtures and custom ironwork to reclaimed barn beams and custom installations.

Although it costs a lot more to build than a typical stick frame house, Marshall said that special investments are worth creating something unique and memorable.

“That’s why I designed it to run as a high-end, short-term rental, so I can increase my revenue and share it with all-in-the-middle guests,” he added.
The quirky home was recently featured on “Zillow Gone Wild.” This shared the comment, “Imagine sleeping surrounded by books. A dream you have.”

In response to a social media post about the list, a Facebook commenter wrote, “You just need to use an inhaler, thinking about the amount of dust that gathers in all these books.”
