a Baylor University Football The player passed away early Wednesday morning after police said they were found in a car suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in their home town of Mississippi.
18-year-old defensive lineman Alex Foster was later identified as the victim of an early morning shooting in Greenville.

“We are heartbroken by the unexpected loss of Alex Foster, a beloved teammate, friend and a crucial part of the Baylor family,” says Mack B. Rhoades, Vice President and Director of Athletics, IV and Head. Soccer coach Dave Aranda said in a joint statement released by the school.

“Our thoughts and prayers belong to Alex’s family and all those who loved him. During this period of deep sadness, we draw strength from the faith and unwavering love of the Baylor community. Our immediate focus is to support Alex’s family and his teammates through this devastating loss. Alex’s memory will forever be part of Baylor University.”

Upon reaching the scene, they found a man in the car suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Mew did not name Foster the victim, but the Washington County Coroner’s Office later confirmed his identity with the outlet.

Foster was taken to a community hospital, where he was soon injured.
Aranda later issued another statement in X, saying the Baylor community was “devastated” after Foster’s death.
“Alex is a beloved member of our Baylor family and we are devastated by this loss. In his time, he has had a long-standing impact on us all with our programme. Our hearts are broken and our prayers are with his family, friends and those who love him so deeply.”
In response to the shooting deaths, Greenville Mayor Eric D. Simmons spoke about the recent “surge” of crime affecting the community.

“Over the past few weeks, our community has been deeply shaken by a surge in violent crimes, including multiple shootings, a spike in violent crime, acts of gun violence and pointless killings,” he said in a brief video address. Simmons added that after voting Wednesday, the city will implement a “further notice” curfew from 9pm to 6am every day.
“It’s about protecting the lives and happiness of all Greenville residents.”
Foster joined Baylor in 2024 Mississippi Top 20 prospects and 69th in the country’s defensive lineman. He didn’t see his freshman year after redshirting his freshman year and then saw his actions last season.
