Jarred Shaw, a 34-year-old basketball player from the Indonesian Basketball League, was arrested for allegedly attempting to smuggle illegal drugs into the country, police said Thursday.
Indonesia’s strict drug laws could face life imprisonment and even death penalty if he finds himself guilty. Convicted smugglers were executed in the past for firing squads.
Ronald Sipayun, Police Chief At Soekarno-Hatta airport, authorities said they had stormed Shoe’s apartment just outside the country’s capital Jakarta, where they seized 132 cannabis candies.

Shaw told police he wanted to share the candy with his teammates, Shipayon said.
“We are still conducting research to uncover the international drug network behind this case and to stop its distribution,” Sipayung added.
The show attended Wednesday’s press conference on the issue of wearing an orange t-shirt and a mask.
He played for several teams in the Indonesian Basketball League, including Tangerang Hawks, the team he signed with last year. The show has been playing in the league since 2022.

But Hawks manager Tikki Swantychno said the show was quickly let go Thursday due to a breach of contract. The league also banned him from playing.
“We don’t tolerate any player, administrator or anyone in the field involved in drugs,” said Budisatrio Diwandno, chairman of Indonesia’s Basketball League. “There is no space for drug users in the basketball world.”
There are about 530 death row inmates In Indonesiaand most of them are in prisons for drug-related crimes, according to data from the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections. Of that total, 96 were foreigners.
The last time it was executed in July 2016, when the Indonesians and three foreigners were executed.

Shaw, who is originally from Dallas, played college basketball. Oklahoma And Utah. The 6-foot-10 forward had more time in Utah playing in 58 contests, averaging 28.3 minutes per game.
During the Aggies, Shaw averaged 14.2 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.1 blocks.
