AT&T The company eliminated its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) program, becoming the latest company to do so as the Trump administration continues to push for a nationwide elimination of the practice.
The telecommunications giant, which has 100,000 employees in the United States, sent the following letter: Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Brendan Carr said Monday that he is ending DEI-related policies following recent changes in the legal landscape governing DEI-related programs.
“AT&T has always valued merit-based opportunity, and today we are pleased to reaffirm our commitment to equal employment opportunity and nondiscrimination,” said David McAtee, AT&T’s senior executive vice president and general counsel. “Our multifaceted approach, consistent with applicable law, allows our employees to thrive in an environment free of insidious discrimination.”

AT&T’s announcement comes after a number of companies. Including Amazon, Meta, Lowe’s, McDonald’s, We rescinded our own DEI program.
Major mobile carriers Verizon Communications and T-Mobile have also ended their programs.

In November 2024, AT&T agreed to buy some radio frequency licenses from U.S. Cellular in a $1.02 billion deal that is subject to FCC approval, according to Reuters.
On Tuesday, Carr posted on X that AT&T “commemorated our commitment to eliminating DEI-related policies.”
In a letter to the FCC, the company said it no longer intends to take on DEI-focused roles, noting that it is “AT&T’s long-standing practice to pay and promote individuals based on merit and qualifications.”
“Our hiring, training and career development opportunities are not and will not be based on or limited by race, gender or other protected characteristics,” McAtee wrote.
He added that AT&T no longer hires based on race, gender or sexual orientation, and the company has eliminated all DEI training.
