Recent archaeological excavations in Turkey have uncovered the site of a Roman hospital turned Christian holy site, providing new insight into centuries of history. ancient history.
Ankara’s state-run broadcaster Anadolu Agency (AA) reported the discovery on October 8.
The ruins were discovered in the ancient city of Kaunos in Mugla province in southwestern Türkiye. They were inside the monastery area within the city walls.

Archaeologists have been excavating at the Late Antiquity complex since 2022, but the discovery was only recently made.
Excavation leader Ufuk Čeltyuk also told AA that previous excavations had unearthed “instruments used in particular in the medical field.”
“This year, we have noticed an increase in the number of such people. medical equipment” said the professor.

“Based on the recovered materials, we can say that the first phase of the complex dates from the 2nd to 3rd century AD and functioned as a health center or hospital.”
Choltuk said the hospital eventually served not only soldiers but also ordinary people.

“It remains intact in every respect,” the archaeologist said.
