“Strange” Deep sea fish Recently, I’ve been amazed at a local aquarium by washing land on an Oregon beach.
A seaside aquarium in Seaside, Oregon, released photos of the dead fish in a Facebook post on April 23rd. Experts have identified the fish as long nose lancet fish.
“Like a barracuda, this is one of the fish I don’t think I’ll run along the Oregon coast,” the aquarium said. “Their beautiful, large eyes, sharp tusk-like teeth and serpent-like bodies distinguish this fish from most other fish living in the Pacific Northwest.”

The aquarium noted that little is known about long nose lancet fish.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) said the species “appears to have been swimming since prehistoric times.”

“Features include a body with gaping jaws, huge eyes, sail-like fins and long slicks,” the NOAA website explains.
“Lancet fish grown to over 7 feet long are one of the largest deep-sea fish,” the science agency adds. “These fish swim to a depth that is more than a mile below the surface of the sea.”
These fish are the best and worst for your health, experts say
At Seaside Aquarium, aquatic experts quickly got to work, leaving long nose lancet fish open to analyze stomach contents. The species is known for its “unique feeding habits,” the aquarium said.

“We also know they’re not a picky person, they’re known to eat 90 species We are attracted to the marine life that includes each other, and unfortunately, plastic,” the aquarium said.

The specimen was markedly whole, indicating that Long North lancet fish did not digest much of its diet.
“They are insufficiently digested, so when you look at the contents of your stomach, you usually see the whole fish and other items of prey,” the seaside aquarium was added to its post. “By studying what long nose lancet fish eat, scientists can better understand how marine food webs change over time (if any).”

“It may also help us understand the food web changes that occur from events like El Nino and Lanina.”
The aquarium is known to wash off Oregon beaches during this time of year, but although rare, long nose lancet fish is known.

“For some reason, in the spring and summer, a handful of these people wash on beaches in Oregon,” the Post concluded.

“Aquariums often get calls when someone comes across one of these strange fish and wonders exactly what they find.”
