Ovechkin appeared and was asked “Fox & Friends” On Wednesday, if he thought it was possible to break Gretzky’s record in 2020. Greetzky tapped Ovechkin as something to do if he had the opportunity.
“No. Even before this year, even at 39, you have to score 42 goals. In this league, this hockey game is hard to play,” he said. “Like I’ve always said, without teammates, without family, without all the support, we wouldn’t have reached that milestone.”

Ovechkin’s 895th career goal was 42nd of the season. He plays 42 games this season and has six multi-goal games, including hat-tricks against the Vegas Golden Knights and Edmonton Oilers.
He recalls the history-making moments that scored against the islanders.
“To be honest, I didn’t think it would happen,” he said. “This is a very wonderful moment for the capital organization, for hockey, for my teammates, for my family, friends and fans around the world, for myself.”
Ovechkin also worked with the V Foundation to help fight childhood cancer.
