After commenting that Sims was open to let No. 11 go to Carter, Chris called his father and asked if he would actually make it happen.
However, Deidre called and he couldn’t believe Chris was by his father’s side.
“I thought you were by my side, dare you. Forget that, I don’t want to talk to you and we’re hanging up,” Chris said he told him over the phone.

Chris said his father asked him if he could shake his mother and sister to his side. But Chris was right – the Sims women’s vote ultimately grabbed more power.

Carter, third overall in the 2025 NFL Draft, sparked a controversy that revolved around the jersey number he wanted to wear. Lawrence Taylor, a Hall of Fame linebacker whose retired 56 was raised by Carter, told rookies to make their numbers famous.
That was when Carter pivoted to No. 11. But now, Carter has to find his own number, just like all other players.
It’s trivial to believe that a rookie can take the number of retired, but these days NFLincluding this past season. Malik Nabels has received permission from Ray Flaherty’s family to wear the number one.

Also in this year’s draft class, Warren Moon gave it to Come Ward, the number one overall pick, the right to wear retired No. 1 with the Tennessee Titans. Of course, Moon has the right to give him his number if he does.
Jersey numbers usually don’t have the weight of a rookie, but the NFL world is stuck with what Carter does now that both of his requests have been rejected.
