That’s not a secret Aaron Carter He was struggling with substance abuse and mental health issues leading up to his tragic death in 2022. Now, the new documentary entitled “Carters” reveals more intimate details than ever before, behind the history of famous family losses, trauma and heartbreak.
The two-part documentary, which premieres April 15th at Paramount+ on April 15th, will open up close friends and family with Aaron’s twin sister Angel Carter Conrad and close friends and family about the experiences that led to Aaron’s end mise. Nick Carters A house with a gun in his car.

Angel recalls her phone conversation with Aaron, where he told her that he had been diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
During the conversation, Angel said, Aaron said he often “kills the baby” and thought of Nick’s wife, Lauren Kit Carter.
“I was just processing it and I was taking it all in,” Angel said. “I was so unsure of the conversation that I was coming back and handling everything that was happening.”
Angel made the conscious decision not to tell her Backstreet Boys brother, fearing Nick would take action.

“I didn’t want to hurt him [Aaron]”The angel confessed.
However, a few weeks later, Aaron began to acquire multiple guns, including shotguns, AK-47s, and introduced them on social media.

“He was in a very, very dark place, poses a threat to Angel, Nick and me,” Angel’s husband Corey Conrad said in the documentary. “Obviously he’s not in his righteous heart.”
Angel finally tells Nick, as she admits she is “very scared” what her brother does.

“After careful consideration, my sister Angel and I regret that we had to seek restraining orders against today’s brother Aaron,” Nick announced at the time on X (formerly Twitter).

“In light of Aaron’s increasingly alarming behavior and his recent confession that he had the idea and intention to kill my pregnant wife and unborn baby, we had no choice but to take every step possible to protect ourselves and our family.”

“We love our brother and really hope he gets the right treatment he needs before any harm comes to himself or anyone else,” the statement concluded.
The family felt that “there were no other options.”
“He wasn’t in control of himself at the time,” Corey said.
Despite their efforts, the restraining order made Aaron “even more violent,” Corey revealed.
Aaron has become “even more violent.”
“He drove [Las] Vegas, carrying a gun in his car, will live stream to a place he knew he was driving to Nick’s community,” he recalled.
Aaron’s assistant at the time had a slow star location by finding my phone and was providing live updates to his family about where Aaron was.

“We literally had this moment. “Yeah, he’s going to kill Nick and Lauren, he’s going to kill someone, then he’s going to kill himself,” Knight added.
“They had helicopters, they had swats. We didn’t know what he was going to do or what he was going to do,” Corey added.
“It was a very scary time to listen to Lauren and Nick,” recalls Knight. “You could hear the horror they felt in the moment. There was a total mess at home.”
“[Aaron] I sat in the car park for 45 minutes before leaving and chased him down to Kentucky,” she said.

Angel said she was in court when the gun was legally taken away when she last saw her twin brother.
“He was really mad. He cried out to me, ‘You died to me.’ That was horrifying.

“Aaron was to get help and get healthy,” Corey added. “We were trying to save him in every way possible.”
“Aaron’s mental illness appeared in a very dark place,” Lori said. “He’s been a very monster in the last few years of his life. He hurt a lot of people. The ones he hurt the most were people who really loved him and cared for him.”

Angel, who reunited with his brother just before he passed away, said his family was in “crisis mode,” the week of his death.
“He said, ‘You’re the reason I’m into drugs. That’s your fault,” Angel recalled Aaron, who told her at the time. “He said, ‘You guys always made me a scapegoat.’ He blamed me and was frustrated that he didn’t own what he was doing. ”
That was their last conversation.
Aaron passed away on November 5th, 2022. He was drowned in his bathtub, according to the local director of the Los Angeles County Medical Examination Office. The “effects of “aerosol propellants found in spray cans) and alprazolam (commonly known as Xanax)” were listed as contributors to his death.
The coroner said the way of death was ruled as an “accident.”

“I will never forget to be in London and receive text messages,” the emotional Nick said in the documentary. “To this day it’s incredible. I have never had the opportunity to sadden.”
Along with the documentary, the family hopes to spread awareness among mental illnesses, especially among children.
Not only are Angel and Nick grieving Aaron’s loss, they also grieve their two other brothers and father.
Leslie Carter died of a drug overdose in 2012. Bobby Jean died of overdose of fentanyl In 2023, his father, Robert Jean Carter, passed away in 2017.

“We have to do something. This can’t be just wiped out under the rug,” Angel said in the documentary. “How do you stop this? We stop this by talking about it. I think there’s a life lesson in this. To take something very tragic and turn it into something positive, that’s exactly what Aaron wants.”
“Aaron loved people,” she added. “He was there for people and loved to show up for people. I want people to remember that part of him.”
Despite the tragedy, Angel – a nonprofit activist Kids Mental Health Foundation (previously on our sleeves) is the national Children’s Hospital initiative to raise awareness of the importance of children’s mental health – focuses on Family: Family.
“I don’t want to feel the pain or sadness I feel about my siblings because at this point that that’s how I connect with them,” she said. “I don’t want to cry for them because they haven’t been forgotten. They remember. They deserve it.”
