NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell spoke about the potential 18-game regular season before Super Bowl LIX in February.
Goodell said there was “a lot to do” before expanding the season to 18 games, and that he had not officially discussed the addition of the game with the player union.
New York Giants Wide receiver Darius Slayton said the NFL thought it was “unusual” for them to add their 17th game to the regular season before 2021, and they couldn’t even wrap their heads around the 18th game.

The 28-year-old wide receiver said he hopes for three things in the upcoming CBA in exchange for the possibility of adding the 18th regular season game.
The first thing Slayton wants is a change to the NFL’s proven performance escalator.
A proven performance escalator will increase your 3rd round pick salary if a certain playtime threshold is reached. Players can earn that salary bump via the escalator if they play at least 35% of offensive or defensive snaps in their first three seasons.
You can also earn a salary increase if you average at least 35% playtime in your first three seasons. Payroll bumps will be effective prior to the player’s fourth season.
However, these pay increases are not guaranteed to players, and the general manager can play hardball and take it away.
The NFL Pro Bowler shares a catastrophic toll injury.

“The situation was in a place where (escalators) (escalators) can be made. The escalators are there for those who are not fortunate to get the chance to make a little money in the league. “NFL spotlight with Ali Meilov.”
“Don’t put it there. If you can get it (and then) why put it there to take it? So you need to guarantee them.”
Slayton had won the escalator as it was his fifth pick to qualify for a wage raise. However, Giants general manager Joe Shane had Slayton cut his pay to stay with his team, essentially wiping out his escalator.
The next change that Slayton wants to see in the CBA is a change in revenue share when the NFL adds its 18th game.
“If we can get another 1% or 1.5% to get another 1% or 1.5%, we know we’re 49 and a half. I think we’re 48 and a half now. Even if we’re like 49 and a half, I think 1% is talking about millions of dollars in that case.
The last thing Slayton said is that greater investment from the training staff’s NFL-wide teams will accommodate additional games.

“Each team investment in training staff and the maintenance of such body can undoubtedly be high on the whole, and most of all, you need to have access to keep your body right.
“I’m on a team that actually does one of the best jobs in the league. But I know that just listening to guys from all over the league can certainly be high. If people’s bodies want to hold on, it’s a department where you can pour more money and at least help more people.”
Slayton specifically said he doesn’t think the NFL will add a second week to its schedule.
“I don’t know about two (Goodbye Week), because chasing buying is difficult,” Slayton said.
According to Ari Meirov, NFL data shows that there is more soft tissue damage after a week.
Slayton said it’s up to the union of players to fight for these changes.
“It’s going to be us as a player union and PA to fight for what we need in return if we add the 18th game, but that’s definitely not, that’s certainly not ideal for players,” Slayton said.

The Giants selected Slayton on their fifth pick in the 2019 NFL Draft Auburn’s.
In six seasons with the Giants, Slayton has 259 catches for 3,897 yards and 21 touchdowns. Last season, Slayton made 39 catches and two touchdowns for 573 yards.
Slayton was an offseason free agent, but remained with the Giants on a three-year, $36 million contract.
