Democrat New York City Mayoral candidate and former governor Andrew Cuomo announced Wednesday that if elected, he would be seeking to raise the city’s minimum wage to $20 an hour by 2027.
“The businessman said, ‘Oh, no, we can’t raise the minimum wage because that’s what slows the economy,” Cuomo said at the campaign rally.

“Their experts say, ‘Oh, it’s going to be too difficult to get it to pass politically. Politicians are trying to fear passing it.” Former Governor Added. “Well, I’ll tell you this, they’re wrong. And you know we know they’re wrong?
“We raised it to $15, the highest minimum wage in the United States,” he pointed out, saying it is likely to advertise it in the law he signed into for his second term as governor. “And what happened when we did that? The economy wasn’t going down. We protected small businesses with tax credits.

“And if you index that $15, do you know what it will be today?” Cuomo assumed. “$20 – that’s fair wages, and that’s what we want, and that’s what we’re trying to get back.”
The public relations company linked to the Cuomo campaign did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

The city’s minimum wage has been raised twice in the past two years. In 2024, it was raised between $15, which was previously set in 2018, during the governor of Cuomo, and $16 per hour. This year, there was an additional 50 cents increase to the current $16.50 an hour.
