For the first time since 1988, New York Yankees I have a new full-time play-by-play announcer on radio.
Dave Sims has been replaced John Sterlingretired early in the 2024 season, but temporarily returned to the postseason with WFAN. Sims was previously a Seattle Mariners television station.
Of course, Sterling never missed the game from 1989 until the summer of 2019, including the postseason. However, the Sims didn’t seek a Yankees series against athletics in Sacramento last weekend.

Sims has said on social media that he has missed the series to visit his Seattle family.
Sims’ absence was bothering me. Boomer Essiasonhosts daily morning shows on the Yankees radio network.
“John Sterling didn’t miss the game, what about him? Are you just taking a week off?” Esiason said. “Sorry, I love Dave Sims… what are you doing? You just did a Yankee job. That should be your life job.”
“Don’t miss the Yankee… you just don’t do that.”
Esiason repeated his love for Sims.

“He was just starting out as a Yankee announcer, and he had 40 games in his Yankee announcer career and he decided to take off,” Esiason continued.
Perhaps the issue hit a painful spot for Esiason, who traveled to call the NFL games and returned to New York to host a show he co-hosted with Greg Giannotti.
“I’ll fly to a Monday night game and come back in the middle of the night and come to the studio with Craig. [Carton]especially when we were on the same broadcast… I did the same thing as you. It’s the Yankees for God,” said Esiason, the 1989 NFL MVP.
Last year there were several announcer rotations for the Yankees, but they landed in the Sims over the offseason.

The Yankees and Mariners series, where the Sims call the game from the visitors’ broadcast booth, begins Monday night.
