The countdown is on. In just one day, Americans will no longer be able to travel with a standard driver’s license as their ID. Instead, you will need an actual ID with the gold star displayed in the top right corner.

The New York DMV said that after passengers apply, it will receive the temporary document and “it will take about two weeks for the new, expanded, actual ID document to arrive in the mail.”

Meanwhile, in California, according to the DMV, “it usually takes two to four weeks to mail your physical ID card after application.”
In Michigan, identification should arrive by mail within two to three weeks, according to the DMV website.
Pennsylvania said that if the person registers with the DMV, they will mail the actual ID within 15 business days. However, if a traveler visits the Penndot Real ID Center, the person will “can be verified in real time and the actual ID will be issued. [the] Same day. ”
