Maine GOP Rep. Laurel Libby filed an emergency appeal in First Circuit Court on Monday. Recent Judgments It supported her condemnation in Congress.
The state’s Democratic majority voted to denounce her for writing a social media post in February identifying the trans athlete who won the women’s state pole vault competition. Libby filed a lawsuit against House Speaker Ryan Fectoteau, and overturned it, but Rhode Island U.S. District Court Judge Melissa Dubose took control of Libby on Friday.

Libby represents 9,000 components in Maine’s 90th District and was unable to speak or vote on their behalf for two months in the state legislature.
“The appeal is a seat that goes far beyond the seats of lawmakers. This is defending Maine’s constitutional rights of 9,000 people in the Maine House of Representatives who are currently without voices or votes,” Libby said.
“I am grateful for the support of my members and many others in Maine who understand the importance of speaking the truth and standing firmly.

Juryers John C. Nivison, John A. Woodcock, Lance E. Walker, Karen F. Wolf, Stacey D. Neumann and Nancy Tolen signed the recusal order shortly after the case was first filed. There was no reason.

So far, the accusations have cost her the opportunity to vote for the state’s six-month budget and propose a bill to expand access to mental health resources for residents. Libby also prevents discussion on the House floor of a bill that adds transport to women’s sports to the state constitution.
Her colleagues will vote for the Democratic majority bill after being passed by a mere simple majority in the House on Thursday, but will require a two-thirds of majority in both rooms before going before voters.
