Verizon said in a statement on social media that its engineers are aware of the situation and are working to resolve the issue that affected users across the United States.
“We are aware of the issues that impact wireless voice and data This service is for some customers. Our engineers are dedicated and working to quickly identify and resolve issues. We understand how important reliable connectivity is and apologize for any inconvenience,” Verizon said in a statement.
Outage tracking website Downdetector shows 172,980 reports of outages around 12:30 p.m. ET. These outages decreased to 120,628 as of 1:22 PM ET and continued to decline to 67,646 as of 2:36 PM ET.

The most commonly reported issue on Downdetector was mobile phone issues, accounting for 62% of reports. As of 2pm ET, lack of signal accounted for 34% of reports, with mobile concerns accounting for the remaining 4%.

Because Downdetector reports are submitted by users, the actual number of users affected by an outage may differ from these numbers.

Verizon issued an update at 2:15 p.m. ET, saying, “Our engineering teams continue to respond to today’s service disruption. Our teams remain fully deployed and focused on this issue.”
The company added that it understands the impact the disruption will have on customers’ daily lives and remains committed to resolving issues as quickly as possible.

The outage caught the attention of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), which earlier that year reached a settlement with Verizon for more than $1 million to resolve an investigation into 911 outages in six states. The company also entered into a compliance plan with the FCC.
