Sometimes the best connections happen by chance. For the Arizona pair, that little bit of luck It was another Thanksgiving they spent together. This year will be the 10th time.
Back in 2016, Wanda Dench planned to invite her grandchildren to her Thanksgiving celebration. Instead, she accidentally texted Jamal Hinton in Phoenix.
When she sent her photo confirmation, they realized the mistake and Hinton responded, ”[You’re] Not my grandmother,” she wrote, adding a laughing emoji.

Hinton attached a selfie to confirm that her phone number was incorrect, but Dench asked, “Can I stop by for a second?” Anyway dinner.
The story went viral on social media and is still their annual tradition continues to capture the hearts of Americans across the United States.

Dench and Hinton spoke to FOX News Digital about how a chance Thanksgiving invitation grew into a 10-year friendship, and how they’re celebrating their 10th holiday together.
“I remember it like it was yesterday because it was exciting, fun and completely unexpected.” [in terms of] “It ended up being like all the media was surrounding us,” Dench said. “Meeting Jamal was the best thing ever and I say that with all my heart. It’s true.”
Their unlikely friendship remains a source of strength.
Hinton said meeting Dench changed his life. “I remember my fourth year like it was yesterday.” [of high school]. He seemed to be popular already, [and] I have become quite popular. ”

“But for me, this story has been a blessing from day one,” he added.
Despite Hinton leaving Arizona and then moving back to Florida, and despite losing Dench’s husband and family. breast cancer diagnosis – Their unexpected friendship remains a source of strength.
This year is going to be special, as Dench said when he was officially sworn in. cancer free.

“I diagnosedI was a little surprised, so [breast cancer] We don’t have that in our family, and at my age, I thought I was past that — I don’t know — but obviously I wasn’t,” Dench said.
She said she was initially unsure whether to disclose her diagnosis. Still, she said her friends and family encouraged her to use her platform to spread awareness.
“I wanted to send a message to all women, but especially to women my age, because when you get to our age, you think we’ve moved on. all mammography “But we’re not. We still have a life to live,” Dench said.

Dench said she was encouraged to tell Hinton about her diagnosis last October.
“Jamal says, ‘It’s a good month to do this because it’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month.’ That was last October.”
Additionally, she jokingly added, “I didn’t even know today was Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I felt like I should have known before he did.”

Dench said she has always thought it was the cutest thing and has been blessed by the outpouring of support.
“I’m grateful to be able to get that message out into the world,” she said. “I’ve had a lot of feedback. Women have thanked me for telling me about it, and they’ve also told their mothers and grandmothers,” she said.

Hinton said, “She told us that we have a story, and that A really good feel-good story. And it happens every year. ”
This year, Hinton will be “hosting” Thanksgiving. This meal is offered through a partnership with Green Giant in celebration of Green Giant’s 100th anniversary.
