The US State Department has strengthened its travel advisory to Madagascar, citing “crime and violence.”
The Level 3 advisory was updated on September 27, noting that protests across the country could “turn violent without warning.”
Travelers are also warned of protesters who are rioting, looting, vandalizing and destroying property.

“American people should stay “and avoid areas where protests and demonstrations are taking place,” the advisory reads.
“Sporadic protests can develop quickly, especially after dark.”
