Openai CEO Sam Altman explains how GPT-5 affects the business community and entrepreneurs in “Morning’s With Maria.”
Openai continues to drive the future of artificial intelligence. After the launch of the GPT-5, the company announced a new initiative on Thursday to certify people using AI, and partnered with retail powerhouse Walmart to make it happen.
Fidji Simo, CEO of Openai Applications, said, “Studies show that AI-savvy workers are more valuable, more productive and paid more than workers with no AI skills. That’s why we launched Openai Academy earlier this year, a free online learning platform that helps connect over 2 million people with resources and communications.
Shimo continues, “Now we intend to expand our academy by offering a wide range of levels of AI-style ency certification, from using AI with AI to AI customization work and rapid engineering.”
Openai has set a goal of certifying 10 million people by 2030 and will receive support from Walmart, one of the company’s launch partners.

In a statement, Walmart CEO John Farner said, “At Walmart, we know that the future of retail is not defined by technology alone. It is defined by people who know how to use it. By training our associates directly in AI training, we will put the most powerful technology of our time into hand and give the skills to rewrite our playbooks.

In August, Openai announced the GPT-5, calling it a significant upgrade from its predecessor and a major step forward in building the capabilities of a large-scale language model.
Openai CEO Sam Altman described the model as “like having a team of PHD level experts in your pocket.” Altman also considers GPT-5 to be the main step in achieving artificial general information (AGI).

In a release announcing the certification, Shimo said, “If you want to put more effort into the hands of more people, not just the lucky few, you need to take advantage of the opportunities that come with AI at all levels.
