Google, Kairos Power, etc. Tennessee Valley Bureau We have agreed to supply 50 megawatts of nuclear power to data centers in Tennessee and Alabama.
Companies say the deal will help address the rise in U.S. energy demand and advance the country’s role in next-generation nuclear power generation.
Under the agreement, Kairos Hermes 2 plant in Oak Ridge will supply up to 50 megawatts to the TVA grid, which serves Google facilities.
With this agreement, TVA will be the first utility to purchase power from a Gen IV reactor. It also marks the first deployment of Hermes 2 under Kairos’ broader agreement with Google to provide 500 megawatts by 2035. Kairos plans to boost the Hermes 2 output from 28 megawatts to 50 megawatts starting in 2030.

October, Google has signed the contract Buy nuclear power from “multiple” small modular reactors under development by Kairos.
Kairos Power said the reactor will be “located in the relevant area of service to provide clean energy to Google data centers.”
Google said this week that the reactor will power data centers in Montgomery County, Tennessee and Jackson County, Alabama.

“In this next step, we are working together to create three party solutions for energy customers, utilities and technology developers to work together to advance new technologies that will help meet the global growth energy needs with reliable and affordable capabilities,” Google said.
“This early stage of the collaboration will help procure clean energy attributes from the plant via TVA to drive local data centers with clean energy sourced to the region every hour each day,” the company added.

These record energy needs have pushed US power consumption to new highs and fueled demand for next-generation nuclear weapons.
The Google-Kairos trade will ultimately support an advanced nuclear power capacity of 500 megawatts.
Google It’s not just about the nucleus.
Last year, Microsoft signed a 20-year power purchase agreement that will allow the reopening of Unit 1 reactors on a three-mile island in Pennsylvania. Amazon announced three nuclear-centric deals with Energy Northwest, X-Energy and Dominion Energy in October.
Gridstrategies reports that US electricity demand will rise by 15.8% by 2029, driven by data centers, manufacturing and electrification.
The International Energy Agency expects to use 130% of the data center power between 2024 and 2030.
