Reddit users claiming to be airline employees are warning travelers about possible scams regarding printed bag tags.
The message posted on Reddit on the R/Delta forum is titled “Throwing a bag tag at home.”
The Reddit user claimed to be a “bagment billing manager.” Individuals wanted to let anyone know, “Start discarding your bag tags at home.”

“We are getting an influx of fraudulent claims filed for “missing items.” These people observe who have deleted package tags in the billing area and use your information to submit a refund request,” the user has requested.
The post continued. “From my own personal experience [of] I’m currently dealing with this and I’m experiencing issues[s] By reimbursing real people if they file a legitimate claim. ”

“So be careful and don’t remove the tag airport” The person concluded. “They can use your travel itinerary to steal enough information to get paid.”
Many flight passengers were taken to the comments section to discuss whether this was possible – they shared their own thoughts.

“Obviously my strategy is to forget to remove tags when my next trip is rewarded,” one user commented.
Another agreed, “I’m actually leaving my tag in my bag Next trip myself. “

“I’ve always thrown it at home, not because I’m conscious of it. [of it] But I’m kind of forgotten,” wrote one Reditor.

Yet another Redditor said, “I always abandoned them at home because my full name is on top of it.”

The original poster shared the belief that others can do it Scam passengers.
“The bag tag consists of only name and flight[s] The confirmation number outside the tag itself is “create an email address that includes the person’s name, random phone number, and random address and file a claim.”

“You have to install the bag tag and then throw it away at home until the luggage problem is completely resolved,” Lev said.
“That being said, this doesn’t make me plausible as a massive, common scam.”

According to Leff, tags contain limited information such as last name, flight number and specific bag tag numbers.
He noted that tags generally do not have ticket numbers or street addresses.

“The bags will be scanned. Each scan from check-in to luggage belt will be recorded. If the scammer filed a claim for a bag that is missing in a place that indicates the system is on display, it will be a flag, especially if this happens on a large scale,” Lev said.
“The most common thing is to file a claim for a lost bag against an item that was actually delivered. This is something I’ve written several times,” he added.
