Green, a Tennessee Republican, has previously announced his intention to resign after voting for president Donald Trump“Big, beautiful building.”
The retired US Army officer voted in favor of Trump’s spending bill and sent it to the president’s desk.
Following his final vote, Green posted to X to share his thoughts.

“Today was my last day Voting in the council“He wrote, “My time here started with a fire to serve veterans and continued to lead the historic perks of ministers, but now it ends with achieving true border security. I am grateful that my last vote was in one big beautiful bill.”
Greene first announced that he would retire almost a month ago, but he had no clear dates.
“It’s heartfelt to announce my retirement from Congress. Recently I’ve been offered an opportunity that’s not too exciting in the private sector and too exciting to pass on,” he wrote in a June 9 statement. “As a result, today I have notified the speakers and the House that I will resign from Congress as soon as the House votes for the settlement package again.”
“I was scheduled to retire at the end of the previous Congress, but I remained to ensure President Trump was able to make sure. Border security Measures and priorities “he continued” through Congress, I did that by overseeing the border security portion of the settlement package. After that, I retire and there will be a special election to replace me. ”

Greene served as Republican chair US House of Representatives Homeland Security Committee for the first time since 2023.
Before being elected to Congress, he served as the Tennessee Senator representing District 22 from 2013 to 2018.

In 2024, Rep. Green led the efforts of former Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to fire each for high crimes and misdemeanors. Mallorcas was fired from the House of Representatives on February 13, 2024.
