There was no doubt after his amazing victory last week, but Zohran Mamdani on Tuesday was officially declared New York City Democratic primary election for mayor.
However, there are still major questions. Will Queens’ 33-year-old democratic socialist – defeating former New York governor Andrew Cuomo – face Cuomo again in the November general election?
The New York City Election Commission published official results for three rounds of ranked optional votes from last week’s mayoral primary, with Mamdani winning a majority in the third round and 56% of the votes.
Cuomo, a three-term governor who resigned in 2021 amid multiple scandals and was hoping to make a political comeback, won 44% of the vote. Cuomo was the forefront of the mayor’s primary race for several months before Mamdani filled the gap in the end of the campaign.

Winning over Cuomo and nine other candidates – officially called by the Associated Press – Mamdani is currently a major step towards getting closer to the first Muslim mayor of the country’s most populous city.
Mamdani, who last week’s show sent political shock waves across the country, has won over 545,000 votes. Additionally, more than 1 million votes were held in the primary, the largest total since 1989.
“I’m humbled by support,” Mamdani wrote in a social media post. And he vowed: “This is just the beginning of a growing coalition to make New York City affordable, and we’ll do it together.”
Republicans use the Mamdani Bomb victory over Cuomo as ammunition to blow up Democrats as extremists
Mamdani is currently considered a favorite in the New York City general election, with Democrats outpacing Republicans by a margin of nearly 6-1.

Adams’ polls sank before he was charged with five counts last year. This denounced the mayor of bribery and fraud as part of a “long-term” scheme to personally benefit from contact with foreigners.
The mayor repeatedly overtured the president. Donald Trump, And the Justice Department dismissed the corruption charges earlier this year, allowing Adams to help with the potential Trump administration to crack down on illegal immigration.
For now, Cuomo is staying at the Mayor’s race in New York City.
The vote will feature Republican Curtis Swa, founder of the volunteer crime-fighting patrol known as the Guardian Angels. Sliwa is the GOP candidate for the second consecutive election cycle. Additionally, the person running as an independent in November this year is former federal prosecutor Jim Walden.

While he acknowledged Mamdani’s victory at the Primary Night, Cuomo kept the door open to run as an independent candidate whose elections at New York State Permits rules.
And last week, Cuomo passed the deadline for candidates eligible to run as independents who reject the independent voting line.
However, sources told Fox News last week that Cuomo had not yet committed to running an aggressive general election campaign between summer and fall.
If Cuomo drops out of the race at a later date, his name will remain in the general election vote.
In a pronounced jab for Mamdani, Rich Azzopardi, a senior adviser to the Cuomo campaign, said in a statement Tuesday in Mamdani’s apparent jab, “Extremism, division, and empty promises were not answers to the city’s problems, but the motivation for slices of our key electors, but the financial instability of our families has resulted in the consequences of the voluntary voluntary.
“We continue our conversations with people around town as we decide on our next step,” added Azzopardi.

Mamdani surged to major victories thanks to an energetic campaign focused on affordable prices and high cost of living in New York City.
Approval by the person in charge Alexandria Ocasio Cortezprogressive rock star, the most prominent leader in New York City’s left, Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, and two-time Democratic presidential candidate runner-up in progressive champion, helped Mamdani integrate support on the left side.
Mamdani’s amazing major victory is what makes sense for Democrats across the country
Mamdani has made smart use of social media platforms, including Tiktok. He proposed eliminating fares for taking New York City’s vast bus system, creating rent to freeze Cuny (City University in New York) into “tuition-free” city homes, providing “free childcare” for children up to five years old, and establishing a government-run grocery store.
And Mamdani will catapult herself to number one, riding a wave of support from young, progressive voters thanks to the efforts of the large grassroots military of volunteers.
“This primary has seen a massive spike in voters under the age of 30, and people who have never voted before – completely transformed the entire electorate, so the votes and models didn’t predict the outcome – even felt by city-wide councils,” Azopaldi said in a statement Tuesday.
Last week’s amazing victory for Mamdani rekindled long-standing debate between the more moderates and progressive wings within the Democrats, and between outsiders and establishment.

And when Democrats lost control of the White House and Senate and failed to regain a majority in the House, it reignited debate over whether party policies or messages would be held responsible for whether they would blame the election setback last November.
In New York, top Democrat leaders, including Gov. Kathy Hochul, Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Rep. Hakum Jeffries, have praised Mamdani’s campaign. However, they are refraining from supporting mayoral candidates for now.
