After completing the required mini camp, McCarthy is What he can do on the field will impress his teammates. He was on the conference room and on the sidelines the whole season, and now he is a man.
“It’s my dog,” Hockenson told McCarthy’s Fox News Digital while attending the fifth annual Tight End University (TEU), a three-day summit run by NFL stars Travis Kels, George Kittle and Greg Olsen. “He’s one of the best people I’ve ever had. A young man who wants to learn on the hunger, he wants to be better. I mean, he’s travelling here soon, so he wants to be great in this league.
Bears’ Caleb Williams rejects developing friendship with the NFL: “I want a competitive advantage.”
Hockenson really believes McCarthy has a bright future ahead of him, and he wants to be there.
But McCarthy is a year removed from competitive football and begs the question of what exactly will the Vikings get from the quarterback position.
Last season, O’Connell found all of Sam Darnold’s strengths. Perhaps that’s exactly what the Vikings hope will happen at McCarthy too.
But Hockenson believes he has what he needs to be great.
“He has that switch. He turns it on when he gets to the field,” he explained. “You’re just talking to him and he doesn’t realize he really wants it. He really wants to make everything perfect, he’s certainly a perfectionist, and that’s great.
Hockenson also said McCarthy’s “arm talent is insane,” and this was a knock by several evaluators coming out of the university.
“You know, [the ball] Zip to you and he can spin it. It was so much fun seeing him in the OTA, and [I] I can’t wait to go out with him throughout camp and season. ”

In the meantime, Hockenson returned to the TEU and continued to strengthen his bond with fellow tight ends throughout the league. It’s easy for Hockenson, who lives just 15 minutes away in the offseason, so he’s going to come here, do his job and learn amongst his peers who want to get better.
“It’s good to come here, have everyone, be around Travis, be around George. I mean, I’m around. [Kittle] Every day, we are around each other every day. It’s so much fun to see some of the people off the field and really meet them outside of football to really make connections. That’s what I try to get out of it every year, learn a few things in the field, learn some information, help the guys every year, make those connections, build relationships from the field with those people. ”
